I've wanted to learn to bellydance for a long time, since I saw dancers in Portland at the Rose Festival. I looked into classes there but I couldn't afford them. Samar Devies moved to Miles City and began offering classes at the college about 4 years ago. I took her first classes and kept at it ever since! I even danced through my last pregnancy. Belly rolls were a tad bit difficult in that state however.
My favorite thing about bellydance is the expressiveness and emotional quality to the dance. The moves are beautiful and sensual but the art of it is breathtaking. I'm trained in classical egyptian (thanks to Samar), but via the internet, I've trained myself in Tribal-Fusion. I love the tribal costuming, and the ability to add your own flair with fusion. I was thrilled when Samar allowed me to choreograph our troupe performance for last years festival. Still, I've more recently found myself reverting back to classical/cabaret because of the expressive quality and my love of the traditional music.
Living in Montana has made getting to workshops difficult, but with my busy schedule and home life I can only make time for about 1 workshop a year anyway.
My goals for bellydance are to make it to more workshops, keep up the performing and choreographing, and someday teach a children's class here in Miles City!
My kids, all boys, love to bellydance with me. My oldest son has some killer tummy rolls too! My husband has been extremely supportive, and will finally get to come with me to the festival this year! I can't wait for some formal tribal instruction and to see all you wonderful ladies again!
Hugs and Shimmies,
Kira
