Raks Alimah Bellydance

Raks Alimah Bellydance was founded in 2003 to create an artistic avenue for Billings area bellydancers. We began and continue to be a dance democracy, with everyone’s voice able to be heard and group decisions being made through majority rule. We are open in dance style and enjoy tribal, cabaret, and tribal fusion dance. We strive for a variety in choreographed dances and costume looks.

Each member is encouraged to dance improvisational solos as well as the group routines we create together. Our choreography is sensitive to the needs and limitations of our members, yet we encourage all members to attempt new moves and choreography.   At first, this may be challenging, but in the end it's a great way to grow as a dancer. Our members are greatly encouraged to explore their own unique dance stylization.  Ultimately, we strive to appreciate our different talents within our circle.

We are an open group, not requiring formal auditions to join; however, available space in the troupe does limit the number of dancers that may join at any given time. To be considered for the troupe, dancers must be at an advanced belly dance class level and show proficiency in technique and ability to learn choreography. Also, we encourage an active pursuit in belly dance education to keep everyone fresh and creative. We also want each member to have a joy for dancing and a desire to perform.

Raks Alimah Bellydance has many performance opportunities for its members and the dance community. In addition to the many area performances throughout the year, we host the annual Yellowstone Valley Bellydance Festival, which brings together the Montana dance community in a wonderful gathering of dance and friendship. Come join our dance circle and celebrate the joy of belly dance with us.
